Pran, Creator of the iconic Chacha Chaudhary comic, Passes Away

One of the many things that dominated my childhood, among Tintin and Tin Goyenda, is the iconic character Chacha Chaudhary in the same-name comic book. The man, supposedly cleverer than a computer, not that I knew how clever a computer was at that time, had been with me for a long, long time. The creator of this iconic character along with Sabu, Billu, and Pinki has passed away.

Named ‘Pran’, the veteran cartoonist reportedly suffered from cancer for a long time. He’s one of India’s best known cartoonist who received a lifetime achievement award in 2001.

The iconic Chcha Chaudhary comic book was translated into about ten languages including Bangla and English thus giving it an international recognition. I can still almost sense how thrilled I used to feel when I was a kid reading all the adventurous, funny, and bravery stories of Chacha Chaudhary.

Up until now I didn’t know that Pran was the guy who made Chacha Chaudhary although the name was printed on the cover of every Chacha Chaudhary comic book. I went to Twitter this morning and noticed Chacha Chaudhary is a trending topic worldwide. So I went ahead to figure out what happened and I found out the creator of these characters was no longer among us (not that I knew he was still living in the first place, though).

RIP Pran. And thank you for making our childhood wonderful.
