A Strange Place Named The Internet Made This Stranger Famous for Absolutely No Reason

Posters like this started flooding over the internet for no absolute reason.

You think you’re the only one who wonders what he should do next sitting in front of his computer — or with his smartphone in hand — on the internet? You’re not alone. As it turns out, and it has been happening repeatedly, the internet needs something to rant about all the time. And sometimes, innocent people get famous.

Take Alex from Target for example.

Target is the second largest discount retailer in the United States. On one of them works a guy named Alex. He’s a cashier at Target and he was lucky enough to be photographed by a random Twitter user. That user, whose tweets are now protected for some reason, tweeted his photo. And soon after he became an internet celebrity.

Seriously, there is absolutely no reason for him to go viral — or for the internet to make him viral. He’s just a regular cashier who happens to be an adorable young guy. The internet loved him so much that as of November 3rd 2014, there were over 120,000 tweets on Twitter that were related to either hashtag #AlexFromTarget or “Alex from Target” in plain words.

It didn’t take long enough for the internet people to find out the real Alex on Twitter. Turns out, he didn’t know that he was an internet famous. As of right now his follower count is going upwards of 523,000.

The best part of this story: Even Target’s official Twitter account recognized the move — again, for no obvious reason — on Twitter by posting this:

Guess some guy has just nailed a permanent job at Target, right? And he has the internet to thank for it. If you’re still wondering, why did the internet do this big favor to him, well, all I can say in response to that is, because it can!
